The Middle School focus is very much on continuation of the positive routines established in Years 7 and 8 along with consolidation of the foundation work already undertaken in Junior School and exploration of pathways in the senior phase and beyond school. Organisation, preparedness, time management and prioritisation are all important traits of successful students and we look to support Yr 9 and 10 students in embracing these traits.

Year 9

In year 9, students are required to complete the following core subjects;

Maths, English, Science, HPE and History (Alternative Semesters)

Students can choose a Humanities elective. They may choose between Geography or Business and Economics during Semester 1. IN Semester 2, students complete a work studies course.

Students may select 2 electives of interest that may connect to their senior pathways. Options at Longreach SHS include;

Visual Art, Drama, Technology - Materials Specialisations, Digital Technologies and Technology - Food Specialisations.

Year 9s have a careers day Expo and Work Experience with these all aimed at developing a curiosity for learning, especially in the areas that particularly interest them and those that they mightn’t have realised existed yet.

 SET Planning process

In Year 10, students explore various opportunities and pathways in their educational journey.  In Term 2, the Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan is an important event in the Year 10 calendar.

The SET Plan requires students to choose the pathway for their education, and is an opportunity to think about post school career goals. This means matching each of their subjects to their interests and readiness.
