Instrumental Music
Our instrumental music programme offers students a wonderful opportunity to develop their musical talents through engaging and structured lessons. Each week, students participate in 30-minute small group lessons, learning instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, percussion, or bass guitar. These lessons are thoughtfully scheduled during class time and rotate weekly to minimise disruption to academic studies.
Our instrumental music programme not only enhances musical skills but also fosters discipline, responsibility, and a lifelong love for music. We look forward to supporting your child's musical journey and celebrating their achievements along the way!
Excursions and School Camps
We recognise the importance of excursions in supplementing classroom learning, offering students the opportunity to develop wider social and global understandings. We strive to minimise costs for excursions and school camps and to secure packages that offer significant value for money. Travel for school camps is generally subsidised by RREAP (Rural and Remote Educational Assistance Programme) funding. Although camps are not compulsory, we strongly encourage that all students attend. Students who are unable to attend camps are required to attend school as normal.
Sports
During the school year, our students compete in three interhouse sports carnivals: cross country, athletics, and swimming. The title of age champion is awarded within each age group on the day of each carnival. A trophy is awarded to the house that scores the highest points.
The school is an active participant in the Central West district of North Western School Sport, and competes in a range of sporting competitions throughout the year. Students are also able to trial for district representative teams. Our sports coordinator supports, guides and mentors our young sportspeople through a variety of options.
Choir
Our choir offers students the chance to explore their vocal talents and perform a diverse range of musical styles. Students will develop vocal techniques, learn to harmonise, and participate in performances throughout the school year. Choir fosters a sense of community and teamwork, enhancing students' confidence and stage presence.
CGEN (Creative Generation - State Schools Onstage)
CGEN provides students with the opportunity to participate in one of Queensland's largest youth performing arts events. Students can engage in dance, drama, and music performances, showcasing their talents on a professional stage. Participation in CGEN encourages creativity, collaboration, and artistic growth.
Leos Club
Leos is a youth organisation focused on leadership development through community service. Students involved in the Leos Club will participate in a range of projects that benefit the school and local community, helping to foster a sense of responsibility and civic-mindedness. Through teamwork and service, Leos Club members develop leadership skills and form meaningful connections with their peers and community.
Kokoda Challenge
The Kokoda Challenge is an endurance event designed to build resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills. Students participating in the challenge will engage in a rigorous training programme, preparing for the demanding trek that mirrors the spirit and history of the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. The challenge fosters camaraderie, perseverance, and a deep sense of accomplishment as students push themselves beyond their limits
