Longreach State High School is located within a vibrant rural community of 3000 people located in outback Queensland. The student population sits between 190 – 210 enrolments. We value that our school is small enough to care, but big enough for opportunities for all students. This ideal is embedded through systematic curriculum delivery with an expert teaching and support team. Longreach is a community driven town and Longreach State High School builds on positive partnerships with the local families, businesses, organisations and council. Fostered by a love of outback Queensland and the values embedded in the country life, our students build resilience, compassion and grit.
Our Vision at Longreach State High School is to support all students in their quest to soar to success. This philosophy is underpinned by an inclusive, systematic and evidence-based approach to curriculum delivery. Longreach State High School has a holistic approach to students' personal growth and wellbeing, to support them to create a pathway to a successful life. Our expert teaching and support team allows students to discover and develop their own potential. Longreach State High School values diversity, positive relationships and resilience. We have a strong focus on literacy, numeracy and technology across the curriculum. We also offer a full range of curricular and extra-curricular programs; that include:
- The Arts, including Dance, Drama, Visual Art and Instrumental Music
- Sport from a school to state level
- Traineeships, apprenticeships, and work experience opportunities.
- Vocational Education and Training, delivered by our school and external providers.
Our school also operates a 1:1 laptop program for all year levels. Students have the opportunity to bring their own laptop to school, hire a laptop from the school for 12 months or daily hire laptops.
Support Services for our students are provided through Learning Support programs, inclusion of Students with Disabilities into mainstream classrooms, our life skill program called 3R (Respect, Responsibility and Resilience), Chaplaincy support, Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Support and cross-curricular Indigenous Education and EAL/D opportunities.
Longreach State High School incorporates historical buildings with state of the art learning facilities. The school is fully air-conditioned and has extensive playing fields, with a large undercover Multi-Purpose Shelter (MPS) providing courts for basketball, netball and volleyball.
